FCC Announces Tribal Mobility Fund Requirements

On August 7, 2013, the FCC published requirements for the Tribal Mobility Fund Phase I and rescheduled the date for the Phase I auction for December 19, 2013. Tribes and tribally-owned telecommunications providers have expressed concerns that they may not be eligible to participate in this Fund because certain requirements for the Fund may be too restrictive. A specific concern relates to the letter of credit criterion, which is difficult for many tribes to secure given that accessing capital in Indian Country remains a key barrier to tribes achieving their economic potential.
