November 30, 2011, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs to hold Tribal Transportation Briefing

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will be hosting a Tribal Transportation briefing on Wednesday, November 30th. The briefing coincides with the annual White House Tribal Nations Summit, which brings hundreds of Tribal Leaders to Washington, D.C.

The briefing will allow committee members to hear feedback on the recent and upcoming Congressional activities surrounding transportation reauthorization. Earlier this year, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works passed “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21)”. MAP-21 reauthorizes the surface transportation for the next two years, and includes languages that consolidate the Indian Reservations Roads Program (IRR) and Indian Reservations Bridge Program. MAP-21 also changes the method used to allocate Tribal transportation funds under the IRR Program.

The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation; and The Senate Committee on Finance all will be considering other pieces of the complete transportation authorization in the coming weeks.
