July 14th Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Oversight Hearing on Protection of Native Women

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs has scheduled a legislative oversight hearing on the protection of Native women. The hearing titled, “Native Women: Protecting, Shielding, and Safeguarding Our Sisters, Mothers, and Daughters,” will take place on Thursday, July 14th at 2:15pm in room 628 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. In addition to examining the need to improve protection, prevention and enforcement of domestic and sexual abuse laws in Indian country, the hearing will also examine the Title IX tribal provisions of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which is up for reauthorization this year.

Witnesses for testimony will be by invitation only, and a list will be posted on the Committee’s website once it is confirmed. However, the Committee will receive written testimony up to two weeks after the hearing date for the record.
